Authentic Seacoast Company Announces Expansion

Glynn Williams, Proprietor of the Authentic Seacoast Company, is pleased to announce the expansion of the Company’s business operations in Guysborough. The Authentic Seacoast Company family of businesses now includes the Full Steam Coffee Company and the Harbour Belle Bakery, as well as the newly renovated and rebranded Skipping Stone Cafe & Store.

“The Full Steam Coffee Co. and Harbour Belle Bakery build upon our experience and reputation for high quality food & beverage in the hospitality industry,” said Williams in making the announcement. “DesBarres Manor Inn has received Nova Scotia’s Cuisine of the Year and three Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence. Where Magazine named the Rare Bird Pub & Eatery as One of Canada’s 10 Great Craft Beer Destinations. We now want to take those award-winning culinary experiences and share them around Nova Scotia and across Canada with our new brands.”

“The newly renovated Skipping Stone Cafe & Store on the Guysborough harbour is the first customer for our new coffee and baking ventures,” continued Williams, “but our vision for our new brands is to restore the proud trading legacy of Guysborough by creating quality food products for a broader market. By looking to our trading past we can help create sustainable jobs for our future.”

Located in in a newly renovated building across from the Guysborough harbour with the Harbour Belle Bakery, the Full Steam Coffee Co. roasts Fairtrade certified and certified organic by Pro-Cert coffees. Full Steam has seven unique coffee blends that capture the spirit of Nova Scotia’s Authentic Seacoast. The Harbour Belle Bakery is producing a wide selection of pastries and desserts, artisan breads, chocolates and gelato using only premium, natural ingredients – no mixes, preservatives, artificial flavours or colours.

John Stapleton, General Manager of the Authentic Seacoast Company thanked his team for the hard work that went into renovating and installing the commercial baking and coffee roasting equipment in the new food production building as well as the renovation of the Skipping Stone Cafe & Store, “Our team has expanded over the past several six months to build the new facilities and to work in our new operations. We were fortunate to find people from within our community and to attract new workers for our new ventures.”

To get the new brands ready for market, Authentic Seacoast marketing vice president Doug Anweiler said the goal was to create iconic Atlantic Canadian brands that capture the spirit of Nova Scotia’s Authentic Seacoast. “We worked with images from the Buckley Collection to recreate the industry of Guysborough at the start of the 20th century. From the S.S. Malcolm Cann, a coastal steamer that brought people and goods to the Guysborough harbour, to the pictures of the shore and the hardworking people of the community, we wanted to find the heart of a busy coastal village before the decline of the traditional industries.”

There will be an official grand opening of the Full Steam Coffee Co., Harbour Belle Bakery and Skipping Stone Cafe & Store on Saturday, August 11.
