DesBarres Manor 4th Annual Women’s Christmas Party in Support of the Food Bank

DesBarres Manor Inn will be hosting its 4th Annual Women’s Christmas Party in support of the Guysborough Region Food Bank this Saturday, December 6, 2008. Hosted by Authentic Seacoast Properties General Manager Audrey Firth, this special holiday party brings women together from across Atlantic Canada to share the true spirit of friendship during the holiday season.

“This great tradition began in 1995 when my husband Michael died just before the Christmas holidays,” said Audrey in discussing how the event started.  “I was alone with my nine year old daughter Alex and decided to reach out to my female friends to share their friendship, wisdom, laughter and of course, good food at this difficult time for us.”

After relocating from Prince Edward Island to Guysborough, Nova Scotia in the spring of 2005 to become General Manager for Authentic Seacoast Properties, Audrey transplanted her annual holiday tradition to her new home of Guysborough.

Every year the circle of friends widens and as many as 100 women are expected to join this year’s special Christmas celebration.  Since coming to Guysborough, Audrey has made the Guysborough Area Food Bank the beneficiary of the event as each friend is asked to make a donation of a toy or gift to the food bank to support people living in need in her new community.

“I understand from experience how difficult the holidays can be for families,” said Audrey.  “The donations have a tremendous impact on the families who rely on the food bank for their basic needs and we can share the healing power of our friendship with them.”
