DesBarres Manor 4th Annual Women’s Christmas Party Fills Van with Toys for Food Bank
The 4th Annual DesBarres Manor Inn Women’s Christmas Party was a tremendous success with more than 80 women attending and donating over 100 toys for the Guysborough and Area Food Bank. The toys will be included in special Christmas hampers be prepared for as many as 125 families in need in the area.
“We were delighted to see so many women from across Atlantic Canada come together to celebrate friendship during the holiday season and to give generously to our local food bank,” stated event organizer and Authentic Seacoast Properties general manager Audrey Firth. “It was a thrill to fill our Rare Bird van with toys to help families living in need in our community have a special Christmas.”
Elizabeth Connolly, secretary for the local food bank thanked the women in attendance for their generosity. “We are so very grateful to Audrey and DesBarres Manor for hosting this party to support the Guysborough and Area Food Bank. We had never had a toy drive before Audrey came to our community. When I came in tonight and saw the toys under the tree I was just overwhelmed by your support.”
The Women’s Christmas Party has its roots in Prince Edward Island where Audrey hosted her first party in 1995 to bring together a network of support after her husband died. The annual party moved to Nova Scotia in 2004 when Audrey took the position of general manager of the Authentic Seacoast Properties in Guysborough. This year’s party included three women from PEI who had been in attendance at the founding party thirteen years ago.
“Every year the number of women coming just gets bigger and it’s wonderful for us to show our support for each other and our community,” said Audrey. “It’s something that people look forward to as a way to say thanks for everything we have in our lives.”
